A history of Caljel

Caljel was conceived in 1999 out of a passion to help and support small to medium sized engineering manufacturing businesses that find they must change to survive the spiralling downward economic cycle in the UK.

The founder, Carl Laxton, a seasoned general manager in the Automotive Components market sector has supplied all of Europe’s leading Vehicle OEMs, including Toyota, Honda, Ford and Nissan during their formative and most difficult years in the UK. He now applies all the lessons learnt in the successful re-engineering of companies in serious operational difficulty back to health and profitability.

Typically, an executive interim manager will be expected to cross all business functions; production, purchasing, logistics, finance and not least Quality. Quality assurance is the foundation on which to build each business. The umbrella of ISO and QS9000 similarly covers all business processes, and has more recently encompassed those at the highest management levels. The interim is expected to hit the ground running and have an immediate impact on the business. The most effective achieve this through the reliance upon a vast range of proven techniques and products. The QitS range of products has been developed by Caljel’s software engineering and training services team to fill some of the many gaps evident in the toolbox.

Caljel has come to realise that many existing software products are often highly complex and far exceed the requirements of an engineering organisation, more often this is reflected in the high prices. QitS products have been created by Engineers with the Engineer in mind so as to maximise operational effectiveness and efficiency, not hinder it! Further, because of the popularity of the software the selling prices are affordable even for the smallest of our business clients.

Caljel also finds that many smaller software projects flounder because of a lack of resource (skill or time), both internal and external to the business. Our software support services provide a complimentary range of cost effective software solutions for our interim clients.
